Systems Plus Computers’ annual Earth Day recycling program: Friday April 22

LEBANON, NH, March 30, 2011 – Are you looking for somewhere to recycle your old computing hardware?  Look no more!  On Friday April 22nd Systems Plus Computers, Inc. (SPCI) will be celebrating Earth Day by hosting its annual event to support electronics and computing recycling.  In addition to keeping toxic materials out of the ground, recycling also has some other nifty side effects.  According to the US Environmental Protection Agency:

  • Recycling one million desktop computers prevents the release of greenhouse gases equivalent to the annual emissions of 16,000 passenger cars
  • By recycling 100 million cell phones, approximately 7,500 pounds of gold could be recovered - allowing that amount of gold to go into new products.  Rather than mining it from the earth, this recycling would prevent 12,000,000,000 pounds of loose soil, sand, and rock from having to be moved, mined, and processed

How can you and your community participate and recycle?  At the end of this article, you will find a full list of the devices that Systems Plus will be recycling – so first, be sure the electronics items you want to recycle are on the list.  Also, here are some fun and useful ideas on how you can help support the event:

1.  The workplace recycling challenge.  Set up an internal challenge between departments in your business – or even a friendly challenge between your own business and another – and see who can collect the most electronic devices and computers for recycling.  A little competition is always fun.

2.  Challenge students in your school to a recycling program.  Set up an internal or intraschool challenge to see how many computers and other devices your school can collect from home and school for recycling. (Just remember: it needs to be on the “accepted” list for recycling!)

4.  Get rid of the old computing hardware that is filling your storage space.  Old computers or servers often take up space and require more maintenance than they’re worth, in comparison to the time when they’re running smoothly.  Sometimes that maintenance cost or lost time with computer problems is a hidden financial drain to your company, if it’s keeping your employees from efficiently getting their work done.  If you’re ready to upgrade your hardware or if your organization has old hardware sitting in storage, pull that out and bring it to our recycling event!

5.  Thinking of replacing your old home or work computers?  If you need a new computer and make the replacement before April 22nd, we'll be happy to help you recycle your old computer, cables, printers – all that computing stuff!  The same goes for iPods, iPads, iPhones, Blackberries and other items.  See the full list below to know what we’ll take!

List of items that Systems Plus will be recycling:

  • Computers
  • CPUs
  • Monitors
  • Printers
  • CD Drives
  • DVD drives (for use with computers, not TVs)
  • Modems
  • Servers
  • Computer cables of any type
  • iPods
  • iPads

So don’t forget:  Friday, April 22nd.  SPCI will be accepting recycled products at both their Lebanon and Hanover stores.  If you have a larger amount to recycle, please drop your recyclables off at our Lebanon store, where you can also see our trailer full off other folks’ donations as well.  Keep an eye out on our website or sign up for our newsletter for more information as the date gets closer.  You can sign up for the newsletter on our website, if you aren’t already signed up!
