SYSTEMS PLUS SUPPORTS NEW ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN THE UPPER VALLEY
Fields of Vision Eye Care sets up computing needs early to avoid later complications
LEBANON, NH, June 10, 2011 – Most people think of computing as positive advancement and technology gains to promote business gains and efficiencies. New businesses however, must also think of them differently: for their risk potential. With today’s economic conditions, new startups both have great opportunity and – with respect to computing – great responsibility. Protecting personal, medical, and credit card information has become part of what must be considered when starting up. Chris Fields just faced these challenges when planning for his new optometric practice, Fields of Visions Eye Care, which opens this weekend in Lebanon, NH.
It’s exciting to see new economic growth in our area and Systems Plus Computers gets to see this pending growth often before a company even selects a location for business. “With a little planning help, we’re able to help new companies plan not just for the new computers they need, but also to help them understand the more unusual factors that are related to computing, like the fact that older historic building don’t always allow new wiring to be put in, which means you need a wireless network and need to set up network security to match it,” says Joni Frederick of the SPCI Business Services Division team members. Every business is different too – retail needs are different than services businesses, but on the back end, the computing needs are often similar: keep private data private and keep your servers up and running so it doesn’t interrupt your business.
There’s nothing less fun for someone at a checkout counter than waiting while a business’ computer or server has to reboot, and clients never want to get that letter in the mail saying some store-they-shopped-at’s network was hacked and a stranger now has their credit card information. The perception can be that computing security can be expensive and annoying to maintain. The alternative can include financial and legal repercussions in addition to those unhappy clients. In February 2011, Lincoln Financial Services and Lincoln Financial Advisors, a pair of broker-dealer subsidiaries of Lincoln National Corporation, felt the repercussions of just this situation.
A security breach at Lincoln resulted in the publication of credentials that provided access to an information system that housed personal data for 1.2 million customers. The organization was fined $600,000 by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority for failing to adequately protect customer information. It happens unfortunately often. So, what does a new business need to do? Start with a good plan, which is just what Chris Fields did. In his words:
As I was preparing to leave Dartmouth-Hitchcock and create my own private practice, I realized that I faced the daunting task of building a state-of-the-art eye health care facility that needed to meet the needs and expectations of today's technology requirements. It was at this time that I went to Systems Plus. From the very first meeting, I was treated professionally and courteously. Everyone listened to my needs and I was presented with a comprehensive plan for helping me to succeed in our IT plans. Early in the project I lost the IT person that was my ‘go-between / IT translator’. I will never forget the nervous phone conversation that I had with Joni Frederick that Monday morning to tell her that she was now stuck working with someone that understood what he needed but couldn't ‘speak the language’... her response was simple, reassuring and spot-on. She simply said to me, "Don't worry about this Chris, we've got your back." And, she and Systems Plus Computers have lived up to that promise and beyond.
Working with Joni, Michelle, and Ken has been an absolute pleasure. They listened to my needs, understood what needed to be done and accomplished the project in a timely and extremely professional manner. The customer service I have received and experienced has been the best I have seen in a very long time.
In a time when technological demands are constantly changing, it was an absolute pleasure to turn my IT ‘dreams’ over to Systems Plus Computers and to have the Business Services team make them a reality. Their expertise and professionalism will maintain our continued relationship well into the future and I look forward to continuing to work with them.”
